The development of the nation is possible only through the progress of every section of society, President Droupadi Murmu said on Tuesday while addressing a gathering in Rourkela.

Highlighting the government’s focus on inclusive growth, she said both the Centre and State governments are actively implementing various schemes for tribal welfare.

These efforts, she noted, are accelerating development in tribal-dominated regions such as Odisha’s Sundargarh district, while prioritizing the economic upliftment of tribal communities.

The President made these remarks after inaugurating a Planetarium and Science Centre, the Nirmal Munda Parivesh Path, a Tribal Museum, and an Integrated Command and Control Centre in Rourkela.

Praising the region, she said the natural beauty, folk culture, and heritage of Sundargarh hold immense charm. Its dense forests, mountains, waterfalls, and rivers offer boundless allure, while its art and cultural traditions have significantly enriched Odisha’s heritage. She also described Sundargarh as a land of brave individuals and sports enthusiasts.

Noting Rourkela’s diverse character, the President said people from across India, including Odisha, reside in the city for employment and livelihood. She added that the cosmopolitan city has played a pioneering role in promoting the state’s art, literature, culture, tribal traditions, and sports.

Calling for collective responsibility, she urged citizens to actively participate in nation-building, support one another, and strive to uplift those left behind. She emphasized the importance of becoming compassionate individuals committed to social progress.

“Our nation is rapidly moving towards becoming a Viksit Bharat by the centenary of Independence in 2047,” she said, adding that 2036 will mark 100 years of Odisha’s formation.

She concluded that building a Viksit Odisha and Viksit Bharat requires holistic development and participation from all sections of society, including farmers, labourers, tribal communities, marginalized groups, intellectuals, youth, students, and both urban and rural populations.
